A George II Silver Coffee Pot London 1730 by Thomas Farren

£0

A very fine example of an early George II  silver coffee pot of circular tapered form with an octagonal shaped spout and domed lid with  acorn finial. Standing on a step foot with C scroll fruitwood handle with thumb piece.

Marked to the body for London 1730 by Thomas Farren. Also marked to the inside of the lid with the Lion Passant. There is an armorial to one side depicting a lion rampant with a stag beneath a sword-wielding leopard in a roccaille cartouche. Also three scratch initials to the underside  RTS .

This is a wonderful example of an early Georgian coffee pot in superb original unrestored, undamaged condition. Made of good thick robust gauge silver.  The fruitwood handle is in excellent order secured with the original silver pins. The lid fits well and there is only the smallest amount of play to the original hinge. The hallmarks are unsurprisingly slightly rubbed but all quite legible. The armorial is contemporary with the piece  and in very good order. Thomas Farren was a specialist coffee pot maker and this example is a wonderful showcase for those exceptional skills.  Superb colour and patina.
