A very good quality silver tea caddy or tea box of oval form, extremely delicately engraved with floral swags and hanging garlands. An oval vacant cartouche to the front. The finial in the form of a flowering sprig of Camelia sinensis or tea bush. This has a concealed hinge and it’s original key.
Clearly hallmarked on the underside for London 1772 by Aaron Lestourgeon, the specialist caddy maker. Also marked to the inside of the lid with the makers mark and the lion passant. The finial also marked with the lion passant and leopards head and the nut holding the finial marked with the lion passant.
This really is an absolutely exceptional tea caddy with exquisite workmanship and extraordinarily delicate engraved designs to the borders, the borders of the lid and the main body of the caddy. Highly unusual in that it still retains its original key which works perfectly and locks and unlocks the lid. In absolutely original and unrestored and undamaged condition, this is a fantastic example of this specialist maker’s work. Wonderful colour and patina.
