A Very Fine Pair of Georgian Cast Silver Candlesticks by John Cafe London 1757

£4,500

A very good pair of George III cast silver table candlesticks of shell and scroll decoration to a square shaped base. The stem with a circular knop and a fluted rectangular knop. Rope twist decoration to the base and capitals. Conforming shell cornered  square shaped sconces.

Marked to the underside for London 1757 by John Cafe. The capitals also marked with maker’s mark and lion passant. Each sconce also marked with the maker’s mark and lion passant. Both crested to one corner of the base with a lion rampant.

Both candlesticks stand true and upright. No damage or repairs. One pin-sized hole to the base of one where the striking of the hallmark for the date letter is. Also one tiny hole to the neck beneath the capital. Both extremely insignificant. All hallmarks clear with more wear to the ones on the capitals. Very minor signs of wear to the decoration.

An absolutely superb pair of candlesticks of robust gauge in  original condition with wonderful colour and patina.
