A Pair of George I Silver Casters London 1723 by Thomas Bamford

£0

An exceptionally fine pair of early Georgian casters of typical tapered baluster form. Above the girdled belly is an armorial of  a quartered shield within a wreath. The pierced lids are part blind so as to control how much is sprinkled out. Conforming finial and stepped circular foot.

Both identically marked for London 1723 by Thomas Bamford to the bases and the Lion Passant and the makers mark to the lids.

This is a wonderful pair of very good quality silver casters with no signs of damage or repair.  Of excellent colour and patina. The hallmarks clear with no wear.

Thomas Bamford was a specialist caster maker whose master was Charles Adam, and his apprentice was Samuel Wood. The date of his freedom is not recorded, however, he entered 2 largeworker marks on 5th January 1720 and third (sterling) mark, 27th June 1720.
