A very rare and extremely important George I Britannia standard silver coffee pot of octagonal tapering panelled form. Shaped swan neck spout and tapering domed octagonal lid with sceptre finial. With carved double C-scroll fruit wood handle with thumb piece. The whole standing on a stepped foot.
Clearly marked to the underside for Britannia standard silver London 1716 by John Chartier. Also marked with the lion head erased to the inside lip of the lid.
This is a very unusual and extremely important coffee pot from early George I period. Very few of these panelled coffee pots were made and they were only produced for a short period of time - about 15 years. John Chartier was a very important Huguenot maker whose work is of the highest standard.
The pot is in original undamaged condition, the handle fixed with its original pins and screw. This is an exceptional example of work from an early important maker. All in wonderful condition and superb colour and patina.
