A George II Silver Coffee Pot, London 1751, W Shaw & W Priest

An Impressive George II Silver Coffee Pot of tapered baluster form, with a cast and applied spout, surmounted by a raised, domed lid with a cast pinecone finial. Original scroll fruitwood handle. All standing on a raised circular foot. The pot is beautifully decorated throughout with a high-relief - chased & embossed, foliate, scroll and shell pattern, typical of the period. Vacant cartouches to either sides.

Hallmarked to the body for London 1751 by William Shaw & William Priest, with the lion passant to the lid.

This coffee pot is in exceptional condition, with no repairs or erasures, and excellent definition to the raised decoration. The hallmarks are struck on top of the embossing, thus indicating that the decoration is contemporary to the piece. Overall the piece has a superb patina, very thick gauge and an overall luster only achieved through 250 years of care.

Antique coffee pots of this age and size are few and far between, and coming out of the workshop of two of the finest silversmiths of the latter half of the eighteenth century, this pot would find a special place in any silver collection.
