Very high quality Scottish William IV silver salver of circular form with an ornate floral and shell cast border. The central plate with floral and foliate arabesques on a matted ground. The central reserve with a delicate engraved cloud form decoration, within which is the head and shoulders of a knight in armour. The whole standing on three large cast silver feet of leaf and shell form.
Marked to the underside for Edinburgh 1833 by E and Co and retailed by Ziegler.
This is an extremely attractive silver salver with a highly unusual and very lovely flower, leaf and shell patterned cast border. The conforming feet are also highly unusual making for a particularly fine example of Scottish silversmithing. The salver is in excellent condition with no signs of damage or repair. The whole stands well on a flat surface and the quality of the silversmith's work is of the very highest.
