A very fine quality large size George IV sterling silver wine jug or ewer
of baluster form profusely decorated with stags and does in a forest to one side, with a large rocaille cartouche with engraved initials to the other side and flower swags below the rim. A depiction of Bacchus, the god of wine below the spout. With leaf- capped double-scroll handle and gilt interior. Standing on a stepped raised foot.
Fully marked underneath for London 1824/5 by William Eley II and with scratch weight 52.18

This is a spectacular and highly unusual wine ewer of large proportions and very good gauge silver. The decoration is of the very highest order and is extremely attractive. The whole piece is in absolutely first-class original condition without any signs of damage or repair. The gilding to the interior is of a good colour throughout. The hallmarks are clearly struck and show no signs of wear. An exceptional and remarkable piece of Georgian silver.
